Biographical Information[edit]
Dusty Blake was a college head coach and pitching coach before joining the St. Louis Cardinals as their minor league pitching strategist in 2021. In 2023 he was named the team's pitching coach following the brief retirement of Mike Maddux and continued in that role in 2024.
His first assignments after graduating from Appalachian State University with a degree in physical education were as pitching coach for NCAA Division-II Pfeiffer University in 2005 and Catawba College in 2006-2007. During that time he earned his master's degree in organizational business and leadership from Pfeiffer and coached in the summer collegiate Coastal Plain League. In the CPL he was an assistant coach for the Gastonia Grizzlies in 2005 and the Asheboro Copperheads in 2006. In 2007 he took over as head coach of the Copperheads. From 2008 to 2011, he was pitching coach for Wofford College before spending one year at USC Upstate.
In 2013, he returned to Pfeiffer, this time as head coach, staying until the end of 2017. In 2018 he joined Duke University as pitching coach, from where he was hired by the Cardinals.
