Biographical Information[edit]
Duane Shaw umpired 4 American League games in 1979 when the regular umpires were on strike at the beginning of the season. His games were all at Royals Stadium in Kansas City, MO. He had played basketball in college then became a teacher. He was at Kansas City Kansas Community College for 42 years, serving as Director of Athletics from 1987-1999. He worked 8 state high school basketball championships as a referee and umpired for 40 years at various levels, including 22 state high school finals and Big Eight Conferences. He competed in 1,333 events in 155 senior games, winning 565 gold medals.
