Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Drew Rucinski was undrafted out of college and had to make two separate stints with the Rockford Aviators of the independent Frontier League before finding his way to the major leagues. After the first of these, which lasted only one game in 2011, he was signed by the Cleveland Indians and pitched in their organization for 22 games. However he was released before the 2012 season and found his way back to Rockford, where he pitched in both 2012 and 2013. He was signed by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in mid-year in 2013, and a year later was playing in the major leagues.

In his first big league appearance with the Angels on July 10, 2014, Drew was tagged for 4 hits and 2 runs in one inning when he pitched the last inning of 15-6 win over the Texas Rangers. He made three appearances in the major leagues, all in relief, with no decisions and a 4.91 ERA in 7 1/3 innings. He spent the remainder of the season in AA with the Arkansas Travelers, putting up a record of 10-6, 3.16 in 26 starts while logging 148 1/3 innings. A good spring training in 2015 landed him a spot on the Angels' opening day roster., After an early relief outing, he made his first career start on April 14th, but things did not go particularly well, as he was tagged for 4 runs on 6 hits and 4 walks in 2 2/3 innings, resulting in an 8-2 loss to the Texas Rangers, He was sent down to the AAA Salt Lake Bees after the game, the first time he would pitch in AAA.

He did not play in the major leagues from 2019 to 2022, suiting up for the NC Dinos of the Korea Baseball Organization instead. After he went 53-36 with a 3.06 ERA with them, including a 19-5 mark in 2020, the Oakland Athletics signed him to a contract. He did not perform well in his return stateside however, going 0-4 with a 9.00 ERA in his first 4 starts back in 2023.
