Biographical Information[edit]
Doris Shero played two years in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. She spent 1950 with the Racine Belles and 1951 with the Battle Creek Belles. An outfielder, she hit a meek .093/.181/.093 with 10 steals, 14 runs and 9 RBI in 83 games her first year and was 4 for 40 with 4 walks, 6 steals, 5 runs and 4 RBI the second. For her career, she hit .094/.181/.094 with 19 runs, 13 RBI and 16 swipes in 97 games. She fielded .914 and had 7 assists.
After baseball, she married her high school sweetheart, NHL player Steve Witiuk. She was Secretary/Treasurer and cofounder of S&W Electric, Inc. Shero's husband is not the only member of her family noted for hockey. Her brother is hockey Hall of Famer Fred Shero and her nephew is former Pittsburgh Penguins GM Ray Shero.
