Biographical Information[edit]

Dong-hwan Moon has twice topped 15 wins in the Korea Baseball Organization.

Moon pitched for South Korea in the 1994 Asian Games. In the 1994 Baseball World Cup, he went 2-0 with a 2.70 ERA, striking out 23 in 20 innings. He was third in the event in strikeouts behind Masanori Sugiura and Sung-min Cho. Moon tied 11 others for second in wins, one behind Sugiura. In the semifinals, Moon fanned 8 in blanking the Japanese national team on five hits to send Korea to the finals, where they fell to Cuba. Moon also pitched in the 1995 Asian Championship.

Moon was with Korea for the 1996 Olympics, in which he went 0-1 with a 5.14 ERA. He led South Korea with 14 innings pitched and was second to Young-soo Kim in ERA. He allowed 19 hits and struck out 15.

Dong-hwan turned pro in 1997 with the Lotte Giants, going 2-5 with 8 saves and a 4.85 ERA. In 1998, he improved to 12-5 with six saves and a 3.16 ERA. He tied Min-chul Chung for 8th in the Korea Baseball Organization in ERA. He had a 17-4, 3.28 record in '99. He was three wins behind league leader Min-tae Chung. He was 4th in ERA behind Chang-yong Lim, Min-tae Chung and Kyung-pil Lee. He helped Korea win Gold at the 1999 Asian Championship to win a spot in the 2000 Olympics.

In 2000, Moon was 7-3 with a 3.88 ERA. He fell to 2-4, 6.57 in 2001. At age 30 in '02, his record was only 2-7 with two saves and a 5.10 ERA. Due to injury, he did not pitch at all in 2003.

Moon went to the Hanwha Eagles in 2004. He struggled that year, going 4-15 with a 5.37 ERA. In 2005, he improved to 10-9, 3.47. During the 2006 campaign, Moon had a strong 16-9, 3.05 record with one save. He was two wins behind KBO leader Hyun-jin Ryu.

Moon was 5-3 with a 3.11 ERA in 2007. He did not pitch in 2008 and has not appeared in the early part of 2009.
