Biographical Information[edit]
First baseman Donald Engbers played in the minor leagues from 1962 to 1970. He reached Triple-A briefly in his final season.
He began his career in the Baltimore Orioles system, but spent only one year there. In 1963, he signed with the San Francisco Giants, with whom he remained until 1968. In 1969, he joined the New York Mets organization, remaining there through the first part of 1970. To wrap up his career, he signed with the St. Louis Cardinals. Perhaps his best season was 1964, when he hit .272 with 19 home runs in 139 games for the Single-A Fresno Giants.
Overall, he hit .252 with 749 hits and 41 home runs in 910 games.
He served in the United States Army, with the National Guard.
