Biographical Information[edit]
Infielder-outfielder Don Ross played seven seasons in the major leagues, mostly for the Detroit Tigers in two separate stints.
Ross came up originally at age 23 with the Tigers in 1938, then was in the Brooklyn organization (he was at Montreal from 1939-41 and came up with the Dodgers in 1940), and came back to the Tigers in 1942.
He spent most of the war years with Tigers, and was traded near the end of April 1945 to the Cleveland Indians, where he spent the rest of 1945 and 1946.
Ross had broken into the majors as a third baseman, but the Tigers used him primarily as an outfielder in 1942-44. In 1945-46 he again became mostly a third baseman.
