Outfielder Don Robertson was signed as an amateur free agent on September 26, 1949 by the Chicago Cubs. Don spent his first season in pro baseball (1950) with the class C Springfield Cubs of the Western Association. The 19-year-old responded with a .280 hitting average and 14 homers in 134 games. Don started his second season with Springfield again in 1951 and appeared in just 21 games before being called up for military service during the Korean War.
On his return to baseball, at the start of the 1954 season, he was given a chance with the major league Chicago Cubs. He made his debut against the St. Louis Cardinals on April 13th, making an out in his lone at-bat. Don stayed with the Cubs for a few weeks, appearing in 14 games with 6 at-bats and no hits, ending his short major league run when he was sent to the Pacific Coast League in late May. He finished the season playing with the Los Angeles Angels, hitting .237 in 82 games.
Robertson spent four more seasons in pro baseball, all in the minor leagues, with seven different teams but without much success. He ended his baseball career in 1958 with the Fort Worth Cats of the Texas League with six active seasons under his belt and a minor league career hitting average of .237 and 39 home runs while appearing in 459 games.
As of 2010, Robertson was last known to be retired at his home in Phoenix, AZ. He passed away four years later.
