In his major league debut he beat the Boston Red Sox 1-0, recording a complete game shutout.
Loun was born in Frederick, MD and went to high school there. He spent his first two minor league seasons with the Pensacola Senators in the Alabama-Florida League, with a winning record both years. After going 11-10 for the Peninsula Senators of the Carolina League in 1963, his time in 1964 was split between the major league Senators and two minor league teams, the York White Roses and the Toronto Maple Leafs, for which he went a combined 10-8 (along with a 1-1 record for the Senators).
After his major league stint, he pitched in the minors through 1969.
