Biographical Information[edit]

Dom Hamel has pitched in the minor leagues and been on the Puerto Rico national baseball team

Hamel was drafted by the New York Mets in the 3rd round of the 2021 Amateur Draft. The scout was Gary Brown. The 81st pick of the draft, he signed for a $755,300 bonus. He he pitched 3 shutout innings for the FCL Mets in his first year. He went 5-2 with a 3.84 ERA for the St. Lucie Mets in 2022, and he also had a 5-1 record with a 2.59 ERA for the Brooklyn Cyclones. He led Mets farmhands in wins, by two. Hamel then represented Puerto Rico in the 2023 World Baseball Classic, but he didn’t appeared in any games.

He extended his solid pitching in 2023, having a 8-6 record with a 3.85 ERA for the AA Binghamton Rumble Ponies. He led the Mets minor leagues in K (160, 7 ahead of Blake Tidwell) and was third in wins. He tied for 6th in the Eastern League in wins and was second in strikeouts, three shy of Richard Fitts. He opened 2024 with the AAA Syracuse Mets.
