Biographical Information

Dom Malchiodi played briefly in the minors and died serving in the US military during World War II.

Malchiodi was born in Connecticut but grew up in the Bronx. He played briefly for the 1941 Leaksville-Draper-Spray Triplets. In 1942, he hit .272 with 11 RBI in 27 games between the Trois-Rivières Renards and Quebec Athletics. He fielded .950 at catcher. He then joined the Army Air Force as a bombardier. He served in the Battle of the Bulge and made his way to Second Lieutenant. In late May 1945, after Germany had surrendered, Malchiodi was participating in a training run off the coast of Holland. The plane was accidentally hit by a shot from one of the turret gunners in the formation. The pilot tried to land but the left stabilizer broke off the plane and it exploded on impact with the ground, killing all on board.
