Biographical Information

Dixie Davis found a career pitching for the St. Louis Browns in the time of George Sisler.

On August 9, 1921, Davis pitched a 19-inning complete game as the Browns beat the Washington Senators 8-6 in Washington. Davis allowed 13 hits - none in the final nine innings - while walking five and striking out eight. The game could have ended earlier, as Davis tripled in the 16th and scored as the ball was thrown away - but he was called out for missing second base.

In 1929, Davis played a key role on the Kansas City Blues, who won the Junior World Series. Davis, at age 39, pitched the 11th inning of the final game against the Rochester Red Wings to clinch the victory.

He enlisted in the Navy in 1918. There are two extant death certificates for Dixie Davis, one listing a date of death of February 4, 1943, and the second listing the same date in 1944. However, a newspaper obituary was published in 1944, confirming the latter date.
