Biographical Information

Diomar López has pitched in the minors. He is the brother of major leaguer Wilton López.

He was signed by San Diego Padres scouts Felix Feliz, Robert Rowley and Elvin Jarquin. Making his pro debut with the DSL Padres in 2014, he was 0-1 with a save and a 2.35 ERA in 12 games. With the same team the next year, he was 1-1 with a save and a 2.18 ERA in 11 games. He was initially the second-youngest player on the Nicaraguan national team roster for the 2017 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers in March 2016; he was about two months older than fellow 19-year-old Leonardo Crawford, but was replaced by José Villegas shortly before the qualifiers began.

In 2016, he went 4-1, 2,98 in 290 games in relief for the Tri-City Dust Devils of the Northwest League. He then pitched for four different teams in 2017, presumably due to injuries, as two of these were the AZL Padres 1 and AZL Padres 2. In 32 games, he went 3-2, 3.98. In 2018, he was again limited in his outings, pitching 31 times for a total of 41 2/3 innings. He reached Advanced Class A with the Lake Elsinore Storm, although most of his time was back with Tri-City. His stat line was 2-2, 5.18 with 2 saves; he did strike out 53 batters, while walking just 13, showing he still had good stuff even if he was not progressing very fast.

On April 1, 2019, he was traded to the Cincinnati Reds in return for major league veteran Matt Wisler, whom the Reds had designated for assignment a few days earlier as he was out of minor league options.
