Biographical Information[edit]

Dimitar Nassapov has been one of Bulgaria's top baseball players. His father Emil Nassapov founded the Bulgarian baseball federation.

Nassapov was picked for the MLB European Academy in 2005 and 2007, the only Bulgarian to attend in 2005 (and presumably 2007). In 2005, he set a Bulgarian record with 23 strikeouts in a game. In the 2006 European Junior Championship, he was named MVP.

Nassapov signed with Germany's Mainz Athletics in 2008. He was 1-1 with a 3.63 ERA and struck out 29 in 34 2/3 IP; he hit .200/.310/.200 in limited time at second base and in the outfield when not pitching. Dimitar played for his homeland in the 2008 European Championship Qualifiers, hitting in the heart of the order and manning second base when not pitching. He batted .188/.235/.438 but managed to drive in 7 runs in 4 games, finishing second in the qualifier. On the mound, he saved a win over Israel but lost to Lithuania; he had a 6.48 ERA in his two games.
