Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Dick Ricketts was a college basketball star in college and an NBA player for several years prior to reaching the majors; he was talented enough at hoops to be the 1st overall pick in the 1955 NBA draft. For baseball, his stay in the majors was brief, totaling 12 big league games for the St. Louis Cardinals in 1959. He stood 6' 7" tall to strike an imposing figure for batters.
A player out of Duquesne University, his time in college overlapped with that of his brother Dave Ricketts. Both brothers also appeared in a 1953 scorecard for the Schoeneck Chicks of the Eastern County League.
Ricketts' time in the minors was spent mainly in the International League, hurling four seasons each with the Rochester Red Wings (1957-1960) and Buffalo Bisons (1961-1964). After his baseball days he worked for Eastman Kodak Company.
