Biographical Information[edit]
Dick McGowen was a college coach.
McGowen was a catcher and outfielder in college. He also played football and set an Auburn record with 3,883 yards punted in 1939 (the mark still stood when McGowen died in 2003) and was All-Southeastern Conference in 1940 when he averaged 43.55 yards per punt. He was in the US Army from 1941-1945, then was a high school football coach. He returned to Auburn as a football assistant coach. From 1951-1957, he was head coach of Auburn's baseball team, going 90-76-2. He coached Coot Veal, Jim Pyburn and Alan Koch at Auburn.
