Biographical Information[edit]
Dick Lowe was a 30-year-old amateur who played one game for the 1884 Detroit Wolverines. He is the first major leaguer born in Wisconsin, although since he was 30 when he got to the majors, not the first Wisconsin-born player to appear - Abner Dalrymple, although born later than Lowe, broke in six years earlier.
"In the second inning Bennett was struck by a foul ball and badly hurt, and Lowe, an amateur on trial, came on the field. He had four passed balls and six bad throws to second." - Sporting Life's uncompromising coverage of Dick Lowe's one major league game, in which he got a hit (July 2, 1884 issue)
