Biographical Information[edit]
John Star "Dick" Gossett played two seasons for the New York Yankees in the deadball era after being purchased from the Chicago White Sox. He also had 12 years in the minors, including two with the St. Joseph Drummers, seven with the Indianapolis Indians and three with the minor league Milwaukee Brewers.
With the Yankees, under manager Frank Chance, he backed up catcher Ed Sweeney. With Indianapolis, he was managed by Jack Hendricks every year except one, when Hendricks came to the majors to manage, and Nap Lajoie took his place in Indianapolis.
Both Dick Gossett and Fred Bratschi died in 1962 in Massillon, OH.
