Biographical Information[edit]
Dick Gordon was a sportswriter for the Minneapolis Star from 1946 to 1976. He had earlier joined the St. Paul Pioneer Press after graduating from Princeton University, where he had written for the student paper. In 1939, he moved to Chicago, IL to work for the Chicago Daily News. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps during World War II and served as a war correspondent, then after a couple of years, returned to Minnesota to work as a recruiter.
While working for the Minneapolis Star, he also contributed articles for The Sporting News and Baseball Digest. He was also one of the earliest writers to work for the newly created Sports Illustrated. In addition to baseball, he covered college football and the 1960 winter Olympics in Squaw Valley, California.
