Deward Williams
Deward Ted Williams
- Bats Right, Throws Right
- Height 6' 2", Weight 185 lb.
The identical twin brother of major leaguer Don Williams, Dewey Williams pitched in the minor leagues from 1953-1959.
Williams was signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates before the 1953 season, just like his brother. He made his pro debut as Don's teammate on the Charleston Rebels, going 0-2 with 24 walks in 23 innings. He missed 1954, presumably due to military service.
In 1956, the right-hander and his brother both went to the Lincoln Chiefs. Dewey was 3-5 with a 4.89 ERA for Lincoln and also pitched five games for the New Orleans Pelicans. During 1957, Williams was 7-6 with a 4.80 ERA for Lincoln and spent five games with the AAA Columbus Jets. Led by his brother Don, the Chiefs took the Western League title.
Williams battled arm injuries and only pitched briefly for Lincoln in 1958 and the Lancaster Red Roses in 1959 before retiring. He later went into business with his twin.
