Biographical Information[edit]
Derward Ruiz played in the minors and for the Aruban national team.
Signing with the Boston Red Sox, he hit .286/.407/.306 in 26 games as a backup infielder for the 2009 DSL Red Sox. In 2010, another Aruban infielder, Xander Bogaerts, joined the team; Derward slipped to .203/.330/.231 with 31 walks in 53 games. His pro career over, he was 2 for 12 with a walk and fielded .900 for Aruba in the 2008 Americas Baseball Cup. Despite being their only player with minor league experience, he was not an everyday starter. He also went 1-0 with a 12.00 ERA, beating Guatemala's Erick Acosta.
