Biographical Information[edit]

Infielder Derrik Gibson played in the minor leagues from 2008 to 2018. He spent part or all of four seasons at Triple-A, but never ascended to the majors.

He was originally taken by the Boston Red Sox in the 2nd round of the 2008 amateur draft, a few picks after outfielder Charlie Blackmon and pitchers Bryan Shaw and Tyler Chatwood, and was signed by scout Chris Calciano.

The speedster stole 16, 28, 39, 24, 14 and 12 bases each year from 2008 to 2013, respectively, spending the whole stretch in the low- and mid-minors. He also played in the Arizona Fall League in 2013, a fall circuit designated for promising prospects. He spent most of 2014 with the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs, as well, but also reached Triple-A for the first time—in 21 games with the Pawtucket Red Sox, he hit .244/.282/.397 with 2 stolen bases. He hit .290/.368/.396 with 10 steals on the year as a whole.

Becoming a free agent following the 2014 campaign, he signed with the Baltimore Orioles organization in 2015, then he went to the New York Mets chain for 2016. He wrapped up his career in the Colorado Rockies system, spending 2017 and 2018 with their Triple-A team, the Albuquerque Isotopes.

Overall, Gibson hit .253/.339/.341 with 21 home runs, 301 RBI and 172 stolen bases in 995 games over 11 seasons. At Triple-A, he hit .246/.317/.392 with 17 stolen bases in 211 games. He was a New York-Penn League Mid-Season All-Star in 2009 and an Eastern League Mid-Season All-Star in 2014. He was once ranked the Red Sox #10 prospect (in 2010) and was listed among the club's top-25 prospects by Baseball America three other times.
