Biographical Information[edit]

Derrick Hall has been an executive.

Hall began his baseball career in the minors with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1992 and worked his way up to Senior VP, Communications by 2004; he took a break to host a pregame radio show for the Dodgers and works as a sports anchor. He joined the Arizona Diamondbacks in May 2006 as Senior VP, Communications and was promoted to President soon after. In 2009, he added CEO to his title.

In 2014, he hired Tony LaRussa to be the team's Chief Baseball Officer, giving him in effect free reign to shape the team and its front office. LaRussa hired Dave Stewart as GM and Chip Hale as manager and splurged on a huge contract to free agent P Zack Greinke after the 2015 season, but 2016 turned out to be a disaster, with the team finishing a game out of last place in the NL West. After the season, Hall took back control from LaRussa, who was relegated to an advisory position. Both Stewart and Hale were fired, with former Boston Red Sox GM Mike Hazen being named as GM and executive Vice-President.
