Derek Florko
Biographical Information[edit]
Derek Florko played one year of college baseball and admitted he was not a very good player. He turned to coaching the game instead, and spent most of 2009-2018 as a coach for the Abbotsford Cardinals (a high school club team) and a baseball instructor for the Yale Baseball Academy. In the summers of 2012 & 2013 he also served as an assistant coach for the Lethbridge Bulls, a summer collegiate team that played in the Western Major Baseball League. Before joining the Los Angeles Angels in 2019, Florko also was the Manager of Hitting for AXE Batting Company which manufactures bats for several Major League players.
The Angels hired Florko in 2019 as a hitting coach with the Inland Empire 66ers. In 2020 he was scheduled to serve as a defensive coach with the Rocket City Trash Pandas before the minor league season was cancelled due to COVID-19. The next year, Florko did work in that role with the Trash Pandas. From 2022-2024 he was a coach for the ACL Angels.
