Biographical Information[edit]
Denver Grigsby played three years in the 1920's for the Chicago Cubs and also had a long and successful minor league career.
He was 22 years old when he broke into the majors with the 1923 Chicago Cubs. He ended up taking over the left field outfield job in 1924 from Hack Miller, who could hit but not field. He lost it in 1925 to Art Jahn. In 1926, Riggs Stephenson took the job and held it for a number of years.
Grigsby played for the 1929 Kansas City Blues that won 111 games. Grigsby hit .345, the best average on the team. Grigsby found a home with the Blues, playing eight years for them and hitting over .300 in seven of them. He hit .309 in 14 seasons in the minors.
Through 2020 he has been the only major league player whose first name was Denver.
