Team History[edit]
The Denton Outlaws, a Summer Collegiate Baseball team playing in Denton, TX. The Outlaws were formed in 2005 as an expansion team to the Texas Collegiate League. In their Inaugural season the Outlaws finished with a record of 26-22, clinching the Rogers Hornsby Division, and earning them a spot in the Playoffs where they defeated the McKinney Marshals to win the TCL title. In addition, the Outlaws' Andrew Brown was named TCL player of the year, and Head Coach Derek Matlock named Coach of the year. In 2006, Denton repeated their Rogers Hornsby Divisional Title, but fell to McKinney 2-0 in the championship game. Once again the prowess of the Outlaws was proved by capturing the Player of the year and coach of the year titles in 2006.
The Outlaws, like other Summer Collegiate Baseball organizations, are dedicated and designed to provide minor league-style competition for NCAA players that wish to continue on into professional baseball. The Denton Outlaws operate in the model of a Minor League team: playing nightly before fans in stadiums which seat thousands, using wood bats and minor league specification equipment and experiencing road trips between games. The Outlaws actively recruit players and athletes are unpaid in order to maintain their NCAA eligibility and live with host families in the same manner as Single A and Independent League players.
