Biographical Information[edit]

Denny Clare played two games for the 1872 Brooklyn Atlantics, hitting 1-for-7 with a run scored. The June 21, 1879 edition of the New York Clipper describes a game between the Hudson and Flyaway teams, umpired by Denny Clare "of the Orange Club". It said he was "one of the squarest umpires on the circuit". Despite having a brief career in the majors, Clare continued to play baseball into the 1880s.
