New York Clipper

From BR Bullpen

The New York Clipper was a weekly newspaper published in New York, NY from 1853 to 1924 that focused on the entertainment industry, including sports in its first decades. It was eventually absorbed into the entertainment newspaper Variety, but by then had dropped its sports coverage in 1894.

The Clipper published what is believed to be the first tabulated boxscore of a baseball game on July 16, 1853, describing a game between the Knickerbocker Base Ball Club of New York and the Gotham Club. It was instrumental in popularizing the game of baseball around the country and its archives are a great source of information on baseball played in the 19th Century.
