Biographical Information[edit]

First baseman Dennis Raben began his professional career in 2008. He had been drafted twice, first by the Seattle Mariners in the 2005 amateur draft and then by the Mariners in the second round of the 2008 amateur draft, a few picks ahead of outfielder Charlie Blackmon. The scout was Mike Tosar. Baseball America had named him the #9 college prospect going into that draft.

The slugger played just 27 games in 2008 and none in 2009 (though he'd been named the #9 Mariners prospect by BA going into that year). In 2010, he hit .291/.367/.570 with 20 home runs and 66 RBI in 82 games between two teams. In 2011, he slashed .330/.387/.599 with 18 home runs and 75 RBI in 76 games for the High Desert Mavericks before a knee injury ended his season early. After a down 2012, he joined the independent Lincoln Saltdogs, hitting .409/.455/.818 with 10 home runs and 25 RBI in 23 games. That prompted the Kansas City Royals to sign him. In 71 games for the Wilmington Blue Rocks, he hit added 12 home runs and 41 RBI; combined, he batted .307/.400/.558 with 22 home runs and 66 RBI in 94 games. He had another fine year in 2014, batting .301/.370/.590 with 32 home runs and 96 RBI. It was a productive year, but he was a 26-year-old playing at High A ball, which did not bode well for his major league prospects. He retired in March 2015.

Overall, Raben batted .300/.379/.560 with 106 home runs and 361 RBI in 452 games. He was a MiLB.com Organization All-Star in 2011 and 2014.
