Biographical Information

Dennis Neuman signed with the Boston Red Sox on his 17th birthday. He had pitched for Willemstad in the 2002 Little League World Series, throwing a record three complete games and allowing no earned runs in 12 innings. He debuted as a pro with the 2007 DSL Red Sox, going 1-3 with 7 saves and a 1.91 ERA as the team's closer. He gave up only 19 hits (no homers) in 33 innings. He split 2008 between the GCL Red Sox (3 Sv, 0 R, 6 H in 10 2/3 IP) and the Lowell Spinners (2-0, 7.20 in 8 G).

He was on the Netherlands roster for the 2009 World Baseball Classic. In the Classic, the young hurler led the Dutch staff with five appearances but was 0-1 with a 7.36 ERA; he allowed one hit in 3 2/3 IP but walked six to tie Jung-keun Bong, Yu Darvish, Félix Hernández and Hisashi Iwakuma for the tourney lead in free passes; the other four pitchers all worked significantly more innings. Dennis took the loss against Puerto Rico; replacing Juan Carlos Sulbaran with a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 8th, he walked Carlos Delgado on five pitches and was replaced by Michiel van Kampen, who let Puerto Rico finish a 3-run rally. He was sharper in his next game, a make-or-break match with the Dominican Republic. He entered with a scoreless game in the 8th, replacing Rob Cordemans. He promptly retired Miguel Tejada, Jose Guillen, Robinson Cano, Nelson Cruz and Miguel Olivo in order before giving way for Diegomar Markwell. He allowed a solo homer by José López in a 3-1 loss to Venezuela.
