Dennis McCaffery played three seasons in the minors and was a Big East Conference Player of the Year.
McCaffery was named Big East Player of the Year in 1990 and finished with a .373 average at Villanova, 6th-best in school history. The California Angels took him in the 19th round of the 1991 amateur draft, ending a run of eight straight pitchers taken by California. Dennis made his pro debut with the AZL Angels and hit .323/.398/.382 with 46 runs in 54 games; he also had 11 outfield assists and no errors. He was named to the Arizona League All-Star outfield alongside Howard House and Luinis Aracena.
McCaffery fell to .214/.297/.248 for the 1992 Quad Cities River Bandits, with 10 assists in 63 games in the outfield. He ended up with the '93 Palm Springs Angels, where he hit .231/.328/.293. Overall, he had batted .263/.342/.308 in 196 minor league games. While he had shown decent OBP skills and excellent outfield defense, he failed to homer in 669 at-bats.
Dennis later became coach of Cranford High School. In 2011, he was inducted into Villanova's Hall of Fame.
