Relief pitcher Dennis Gonsalves was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 6th round of the January 1977 amateur draft. He moved on to Long Beach State University, then played in the Giants system in 1980, appearing in a single game for the Single A Fresno Giants. After missing 1981, he moved to the Oakland Athletics system, spending three seasons in the low minors. Overall, he went 8-11 with a 4.53 ERA in 81 games (6 starts). In 145 innings, he allowed 142 hits and 85 walks, while striking out 133 batters. During the 1994-95 strike, he became a replacement player for the Oakland Athletics, and was one of the last players cut.[1][2]
He later scouted for the Seattle Mariners, signing Stephen Kahn.
