Biographical Information[edit]

“There’s no way they can stop me from winning 20. I have always done real well early in the year, but my first two years in the big leagues I haven’t been out there.” - Dennis Bennett to writer Allen Lewis, February 1, 1964

Pitcher Dennis Bennett was the brother of Dave Bennett and uncle of Erik Bennett; Dennis and Dave were teammates on the 1964 Philadelphia Phillies. While Dave only pitched one career inning, Dennis hung around the bigs each year between 1962 and 1968. He logged a 12-14, 3.68 record in 41 games (32 starts/7 complete games) during the ultimately doomed '64 Phillie campaign, a little short of the 20 he boasted being in his sights prior to the season. That November, he was flipped to the Boston Red Sox for "Dr. Strangeglove" Dick Stuart, where a sore arm limited him. He earned 4 wins for the "Impossible Dream" BoSox in 1967 but when October came around, he was slumming with the New York Mets. After a season with the California Angels, he hung around the minors until 1973. He died at home in 2012 at 72.
