Biographical Information[edit]
Shortstop Dell Chambers played in the Atlanta Braves organization in 1966 and 1967 after attending Meramec Junior College. He hit just .204 for the GCL Braves in his first pro season. The next year, he led the Western Carolina League in Walks (80) and HBP (9) and tied for the circuit lead with 27 doubles, giving him a season of (.325/.501/.456/.957).
Chambers was drafted into the Army following the 1967 season and was a PFC, Serial No. 67170023. He was killed at age 20 in a rocket attack at Danang, Vietnam and is buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri. His name is recorded on the Vietnam Wall in Washington, DC.
