Deivis Goatache signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates at age 18. He made his pro debut with the 2007 VSL Pirates, going 1-1 with a 2.25 ERA in 7 games. In 2008, he had a 1-2, 2.88 record for the VSL Bucs, with one save in 11 outings. He returned to the club in 2009 but his ERA continued its rise and was at 4.85 after 13 games.
