David Welch was drafted in the 28th round of the 1992 amateur draft by the Cleveland Indians. He played in the minor leagues from 1992 to 1995 in the Indians and Chicago White Sox organizations, going 18-14 with a 3.17 ERA in 189 appearances (seven games started).
