Biographical Information[edit]
Dave McCarty hit .448/.471/.621 with 9 RBI in 8 games as the Team USA DH in the 1990 Baseball World Cup. It was no match for the numbers put up by the All-Star DH, Cuba's Orestes Kindelan. He also was with the US for a Bronze Medal in the 1990 Goodwill Games.
In 2004, McCarty pitched in 3 games for the Boston Red Sox, finishing two of them. He had a 2.45 ERA in 3 2/3 innings.
Just 10 days after attending the 2004 Red Sox's reunion at Fenway Park to commemorate the 20th anniversary of that team at the 2024 Red Sox home opener, McCarty died suddenly at the young age of 54 after suffering a cardiac event.
