Biographical Information[edit]

Infielder David Macias played four seasons in the Chicago Cubs minor league organization from 2008 to 2011, after being a 19th round choice in the 2008 amateur draft out of Vanderbilt University. Never much of a hitter, he did manage to spend parts of two seasons in AA with the Tennessee Smokies of the Southern League. Defensively Macias mostly played in the outfield, but also saw time at all the infield positions, including catching for two innings.

He then went into coaching, first in the Cubs organization in 2012-2013. It appears he worked with the AZL Cubs in 2012 as their strength and conditioning coach. In 2013 he served as a Cubs' Player Development/International Scouting Assistant. Macias returned to Vanderbilt for the next two years, first as a strength and conditioning coach (2014) and then as a volunteer assistant coach (2015). He returned to the professional ranks in 2016 as the Coordinator of International Player Programs with the Seattle Mariners. The next year proved to be an adventure. Macias started the year as the Mariners' Player and Staff Systems Coordinator. When Clinton LumberKings manager Pat Shine was fired in June at the conclusion of the first half campaign, Macias was named as his replacement for the remainder of the season. However, Vanderbilt came-a-calling once again and Macias resigned from the LumberKings on August 9th and was replaced by Tony Arnerich. Macias served as the Commodores' volunteer assistant coach from 2018-2021. He left the program after the 2021 season to join East Carolina University, a job that ended before the year was over.

In December 2021, the San Diego Padres hired him to serve as their first base coach and outfield instructor, a role he fulfilled in 2022-2023.
