Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher David Johnson was taken 16th overall in the 1975 amateur draft by the St. Louis Cardinals, one pick ahead of pitcher Jim Gideon.

He began his career with a 2.45 ERA in 66 innings for the Johnson City Cardinals and GCL Cardinals in 1975. A few years later, in 1978, he was 12-3 with a 2.62 ERA in 21 starts for the St. Petersburg Cardinals and the next year, he was 10-5 with a 3.27 ERA in 26 starts for the Arkansas Travelers. He struggled in the subsequent two seasons and was out of baseball after 1981.

Overall, he was 42-34 with a 3.55 ERA in 155 games (109 starts).
