Biographical Information[edit]

Third baseman David Burke played in the minor leagues from 1947 to 1951. He slashed .279/.370/.323 with one home runs, 56 RBI, 23 stolen bases, 74 walks and 47 strikeouts in 132 games for the Gainesville G-Men his first campaign. He remained with them through 1949, hitting .308 in 1948 and .291 with 15 stolen bases in 1949. He moved to the Meridian Millers in 1950 and the Greenville Spinners in 1951.

He hit .288 with a .344 slugging percentage in his career, averaging one home run every 310 at-bats, one triple every 177 at-bats and one double every 29 at-bats; he averaged 496 at-bats, 17 doubles, 3 triples and almost 2 home runs per year.

The second of three managers for Greenville in 1951, he replaced the 22-46 Vance Carlson, but after going 4-18, was replaced by Macklin Stewart (who went 12-34).

He served in the U.S. Army in 1945 and 1946.
