Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher David Allen pitched in the Los Angeles Dodgers system from 1970 to 1973 and the St. Louis Cardinals system in 1974. He began his career with a bang, going 18-6 with 11 complete games, 4 shutouts and a 2.80 ERA in 29 starts between the Bakersfield Dodgers (12-1, 2.95) and Albuquerque Dodgers (6-5, 2.59). He never again reached such numbers, spending most of the rest of his career as a reliever. He reached Triple A for the first and only time in 1971; in 14 games (1 start) for the Spokane Indians, he had a 5.33 ERA. In his final campaign, with the Arkansas Travelers, he was 5-2 with a 2.51 ERA in 27 relief appearances.

Overall, Allen went 38-18 with a 3.50 ERA in 167 games (42 starts) over five seasons. In 506 innings, he allowed 472 hits and 189 walks, while striking out 453 batters.
