Biographical Information[edit]
Dave Rypien played for Team Canada; his brother Mark Rypien [1] was a Super Bowl MVP and brother Tim Rypien played in the minors and for Canada.
Dave was 3 for 8 with 4 walks, a double, 3 runs and 3 RBI in the 1988 Baseball World Cup, backing up Greg O'Halloran at catcher. He remained with Canada for the 1988 Olympics and 1990 Goodwill Games. In the 1990 Baseball World Cup, he hit .294/.429/.588 with 4 runs and 3 RBI, finishing second on Canada in slugging, behind Randy Curran and just ahead of future major leaguer Rob Butler. He also appeared in the 1991 Pan American Games.
