Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher David Haehnel was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the eighth round of the 2004 amateur draft. He was signed by scout Troy Hoerner and made his pro debut that summer with the Aberdeen IronBirds, going 3-1 with a 1.69 ERA and 16 saves, tied for the New York-Penn League lead. He made the league All-Star team as one of two left-handed pitchers chosen. He began the next year with the Delmarva Shorebirds, where he posted an 0.79 ERA and notched 16 saves before being promoted to the Frederick Keys, where he was 3-1 with two saves and a 3.41 ERA. In 2006, he returned to Frederick and was converted to a starter. He struggled in that role, going 2-11 with a 6.22 ERA in 28 appearances. Moved back to the bullpen with the Honolulu Sharks that winter, he tied for the Hawaii Winter League lead with six saves and was 2-0 but had a 5.00 ERA and a 1.56 WHIP.
