Biographical Information[edit]
Darryl Jones was given 18 games with the New York Yankees in 1979, in June and and the first part of July. He was mostly a DH, and was 28 at the time. The regular DH that year was Jim Spencer, having his best year by far with a .593 slugging percentage in 295 at-bats. Jones got his playing time after Cliff Johnson was traded away following a clubhouse fight with Rich Gossage.
Jones had gotten attention hitting .330 for the Syracuse Chiefs in 1977 and .322 for the Tacoma Yankees in 1978. He also spent three years with the West Haven Yankees (1974-1976). 1979 was his last season as a professional.
He is the brother of Lynn Jones, who also made his major league debut in 1979.
