Darren Phillips played in Australia and the US.
Phillips debuted in the 1993-1994, going 0 for 4 while backing up Gary White at catcher for the Sydney Blues. He signed with the Toronto Blue Jays and hit .192/.263/.250 for the '94 GCL Blue Jays. In 1994-1995, he was 1 for 4 with a double, walk, two runs and a RBI for Sydney. He was 6 for 44 with a walk and 21 whiffs for the 1995 GCL Blue Jays to finish his US career with a .167 average. In his last season for his hometown Sydney club, he hit .233/.314/.333 in 13 games.
He moved to the Adelaide Giants in 1996-1997 and batted .282/.311/.403 as a starter. He was only 7 for 36 with a homer for them in 1997-1998. In 1998-1999, though, he picked up a few notches, producing at a .309/.351/.576 clip with 22 runs, 38 RBI and 8 homers in 38 games. He was third in the Australian Baseball League in RBI behind Andrew Scott and Adam Burton. He was named the second-team All-Star catcher behind White. In his final season, he hit .319/.500/.511 for New South Wales in the 1999-2000 International Baseball League of Australia. He tied Mike Moyle for second in RBI (12), one behind Chris Snelling. He was picked as a second-team All-Star again, this time at 1B behind Scott Tunkin.
