Biographical Information[edit]
Darrel Leiva pitched in the minors and for the Nicaraguan national team.
Leiva was signed by Atlanta Braves scout Marvin Throneberry in 2011. [1] He went 3-1 with a save and a 5.63 ERA for the 2012 DSL Braves. In '13, he had a 0-4, 3.86 record for the same team. He allowed one run in two innings for the 2014 DSL Braves, splitting two decisions.
He made his Nicaraguan debut with Bóer in 2014, going 2-2 with a 9.31 ERA. He improved to 4-2, 3.53 with 17 saves the next year. He led the league in both relief appearances (29) and saves. [2] He made Nicaragua's team for the 2015 Pan American Games, posting a 5.40 ERA in two outings; only Berman Espinoza and Samuel Estrada had lower ERAs for Nicaragua. [3]
The Boaco native was 1-3 with 17 saves and a 6.10 ERA in 38 games in 2016. He was excellent (2-1, 17 Sv, 0.52) the next year, leading in saves for a second time. He had 7 saves and a 1.35 ERA in 2018.
