Biographical Information

The son of Hall of Famer Don Sutton and brother of Don Sutton III, Daron Sutton spent one season in the minor leagues as a pitcher. With the Boise Hawks of the Pioneer League in 1992, he had a 10.97 ERA in 10 games to bring his professional pitching career to a premature end. He had attended Auburn University at Montgomery, where he majored in communications, and had gone undrafted after graduation.

After washing out of baseball, he became a broadcaster, working for the Atlanta, GA-based CNN network. He worked alongside his father on Atlanta Braves broadcasts in the 1990s, while also covering other sports such as college basketball, then was employed by the Anaheim Angels as a radio play-by-play announcer. In 2002, he was hired by the Milwaukee Brewers, returning to a city where he grew up when his father was pitching for the Brewers in the early 1980s, but he left in 2006 to accept a job with the Arizona Diamondbacks. On June 28, 2012, the D-Backs took the unusual step of suspending him for "insubordination", the dispute apparently stemming from Sutton's disregard for a team order that their broadcasters wear polo shirts emblazoned with the team logo. Sutton reportedly preferred to wear a suit instead and made an on-air reference to the dispute in one of his broadcasts. There were claims that the disagreement was only the latest in a longer series of issues between Sutton and his employers.

It took him a while to get another shot at a regular broadcasting gig. In 2021, the Los Angeles Angels hired him to do play-by-play in place of Matt Vasgersian when Vasgersian was unavailable due to national broadcast commitments. However, the assignment lasted only half a season, as he was let go at the All-Star break with no reason being offered and no replacement being named in the immediate.

He is well regarded as a broadcaster, having won a regional Emmy award for his work in 2003.
