Biographical Information[edit]

North Carolina Native Danny Reynolds was signed as an amateur free agent before the 1940 season by the Philadelphia Phillies and spent 14 years (1940-1953) in professional baseball, 13 of those years in the minors and one in the major leagues with the 1945 Chicago White Sox.

Danny spent his first five years (1940-1944) in the minors with average success with his best year coming in 1944 with the Newark Bears of the AA International League when he played 145 games at the short-stop position, fielding at a .943 percentage and hitting the AA pitching at a .262 average.

Danny had been released by the Philadelphia Phillies on April 7, 1942 and then was drafted by the Chicago White Sox from the New York Yankees in the 1944 Rule V Draft. Reynolds spent the 1945 season with the Chicago White Sox appearing in just 29 games with 72 at-bats with 12 hits for a .167 average. He was at both the second base and short-stop positions and fielded 105 chances at a .962 percentage. As said before this year was his only appearance in the major leagues.

Danny was still young and dropped back into the minors in 1946 in a split season year with the Milwaukee Brewers of the American Association and the Shreveport Sports of the Texas League, hitting .264 in 113 games. Shreveport liked his style and kept him busy for the next three seasons (1947-1949). He hit at a .265 clip the '47 year but fell to .205 in '49 and they lost interest in his game and he wound up with three different clubs in 1950, (Burlington, Little Rock and Chattanooga), hitting .246 in 69 games.

Reynolds spent two of his last three years (1951-1952) with the Shelby Farmers of the class D Western Carolina League, hitting .318 and .283 respectfully and finising out his 13 year minor league run in 1953 with the Shelby Clippers of the class D Tar Heel League. This gave Reynolds minor league numbers of 1,341 games and 4,800 at-bats with 1,276 base-hits for a .266 career average. He also fielded at a .948 clip. He was 33 years old when he left baseball.

After baseball Danny returned to his native home where he worked and lived until his death on February 18, 2007 in Statesville, NC. Daniel Vance Reynolds was 87 years of age.
