Biographical Information[edit]
Danny Mahoney played only as a pinch runner, in one game, with the 1911 Cincinnati Reds. He attracted some comment because the Reds apparently signed him without having him do a tryout. Source: Sporting Life, May 20, 1911. In the same issue, the newspaper referred to a captain Mahoney of the University of Notre Dame team, reporting to the Reds after having been dropped by his college team when it became known that he signed a pro contract. No other Mahoney played for the Reds this year, so that might have been a mistake about the university, and may refer to the same Mahoney. After his one game, he was sent to the minors, and spent three years there.
Danny was at College of the Holy Cross at the same time as three other players who came to the majors for just one game - Andy Harrington, Skip Dowd and Doc McMahon. Dowd also played with the Reds.
