Biographical Information

Danny Haas has been a minor league player and a scout, like his brother Matt Haas. His father Eddie Haas played in the majors and his uncle Lou Haas played in the minors. He is also related, more distantly, to the Roof baseball family (his father's cousins).

The Boston Red Sox took him in the 18th round of the 1997 amateur draft, one round before they took David Eckstein. He saw limited action for the Lowell Spinners that summer, going 5 for 28 with 3 doubles, 2 walks, 3 steals and 6 runs. He was a starter, playing regularly in left field, for the 1998 Michigan Battle Cats and hit .234/.296/.318 while making 10 errors.

Moving on to the Sarasota Red Sox, Haas posted a batting line of .241/.317/.315 with 5 triples in 1999, as a 4th OF and frequent DH. In 2000, he batted .254/.316/.319 for Sarasota, with 8 assists and 4 errors; he was their most-used left fielder and saw regular action in RF as well. In 2001, he ended his playing career with the GCL Red Sox (3 for 28, 2B, 9 BB) and Trenton Thunder (.175/.258/.213 in 29 G). Overall, he had hit .234/.305/.304 in 350 minor league games. He had fielded .958.

From 2002-2012, he was a scout for the Red Sox, signing Michael Bowden. In 2012, the Baltimore Orioles hired him as a national crosschecker.
